Large RTU Unit

Story

Year: 2023

Industry: Education

GC/CM: GDK Construction

Project Manager: Chad Martindale

Story: Overall, the scope of work involved both demolition and installation tasks related to HVAC systems, including rooftop units, ductwork, gas piping, split systems, VAV boxes, exhaust fans, and sound actuators. It’s a comprehensive project that requires careful planning, coordination, and adherence to safety and building code regulations.

Demo out the old rooftop unit: This involves removing the existing rooftop unit from the building’s roof. It includes disconnecting electrical, plumbing, and ductwork connections, and safely uninstalling the unit.

Demo out duct and gas pipe: This involves removing existing ductwork and gas piping from the building. It includes disconnecting and removing duct sections and gas pipes according to safety regulations and project specifications.

Install new rooftop unit: This involves installing a new rooftop unit on the building’s roof. It includes setting up the unit, connecting electrical, plumbing, and ductwork, and ensuring proper ventilation and safety measures are in place.

Install split systems: Split systems are HVAC systems that have components both inside and outside the building. Installing split systems involves mounting indoor units (such as air handlers) inside the building and outdoor units (such as condensers) outside. It also includes connecting refrigerant lines, electrical wiring, and control wiring between indoor and outdoor units.

Install VAV boxes: VAV (Variable Air Volume) boxes regulate airflow to different zones within a building. Installing VAV boxes involves mounting them in the appropriate locations, connecting them to the ductwork, and wiring them to the building’s HVAC control system.

Install exhaust fans: Exhaust fans are used to remove stale air, moisture, and odors from specific areas such as bathrooms, kitchens, or industrial spaces. Installing exhaust fans involves mounting the fans, ductwork, and associated controls according to specifications.

Install sound actuators: Sound actuators are devices used to control noise levels in HVAC systems. Installing sound actuators involves mounting them in the ductwork and connecting them to the building’s HVAC control system.

Install duct and gas pipe: This involves installing new ductwork and gas piping according to the project plans and specifications. It includes cutting, bending, and assembling duct sections and gas pipes, as well as sealing connections and insulating ductwork as necessary.
