Cure Oven Burner

Story

Pleune Service Company replaced a cure oven burner for a local Grand Rapids customer, improving efficiency and reliability. Over the past year, our team serviced this oven multiple times to keep it running, but rising maintenance costs prompted a collaborative decision with the customer to install a new burner.

We began by removing the existing burner and cone assembly and capping the old gas line. Our technicians installed a new Weishaupt WG40N burner rated at 1.6 million BTU and upgraded the gas line from 1 inch to a full-capacity 1½-inch line to meet system requirements. After connecting electrical and control wiring and testing the gas line for integrity, we started the burner and scheduled additional time for performance checks.

The following day, our team completed a full startup and calibration. Using a combustion analyzer, we adjusted nine points of combustion to optimize performance, achieving carbon monoxide levels of 0 ppm. We calibrated high-fire and low-fire gas pressures and airflow switches per manufacturer specifications, then brought the oven up to temperature and confirmed smooth throttling and setpoint control.

During commissioning, a circuit board shorted out, requiring immediate troubleshooting. We expedited a replacement board via next-day air, installed it upon arrival, and tested all circuits before applying power. Wiring corrections prevented further issues, and the burner operated correctly after adjustments. The completed project delivered a reliable, efficient solution tailored to the customer’s production needs.
