About Us
John Pleune founded Pleune Service Company in 1974 with a mission to provide prompt, quality heating and cooling service to the commercial and industrial markets. John had worked in the industry for several years, and hoped that the way he did his work, with excellence and determination to leave behind a satisfied customer, would set him apart.
John set his standards high and worked hard to improve service for his growing customer base. Despite occasional setbacks, the company steadily grew and gradually expanded its services. In addition to core HVAC services, in 1982 Pleune added plumbing, piping, electrical and controls, becoming a full mechanical contractor.
In 1988 an important part of Pleune history began. An ESOP was formed and 30% of Pleune Company stock was sold to the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). Employee Ownership was embraced from the beginning, believing that our customers are our life blood; treating all our customers with integrity and respect. Every owner with a common goal, provide customers with quality workmanship and outstanding customer service.
In the late 1990’s Pleune Service Company embraced an intense growth period in West Michigan, working on projects around the Grand Rapids area such as Steelcase and Mary Free Bed. In 1998, we added a dedicated department for expedited customer replacement needs. This department, coined Fastrac, sets itself apart from other mechanical contractors having the ability to act fast in emergency replacement situations. Unit change outs can be evaluated, quoted, approved and installed within a few days. With dedication and hard work we were fortunate enough to see this growh continue through 2000. We completed some of the larger and more prestigious jobs of that time like Rivertown Crossings Mall and Forest Health Hospital. 
In 2002 a monumental step was taken to complete the culture Pleune Service Company lives every day. The remainder of the Stock held by John Pleune was sold to the ESOP making Pleune Service Company 100% employee owned. With the 100% ownership culture, we work together as a team encouraging one another to succeed and holding ourselves accountable.
In 2009, Pleune Service Company celebrated its 35 year anniversary, employing more than 125 people on the Pleune team. The vision for Pleune Service Company is the same today as when John Pleune opened the doors in 1974. Provide exceptional mechanical service always creating a satisfied customer. This core value allowed us to open our Lansing location in 2010 while many Mechanical Contractors struggled.
